A former litigator, Rebecca Speer established Speer Associates to provide a new style of employment law services with a problem-solving bent. She took a constructive and preventive approach to addressing workplace disputes and employee misconduct, developing a niche law practice that helps clients stay ahead of problems.

With over thirty years of experience, Rebecca has worked with leading employers, including Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, in the technology, manufacturing, biotech, financial, hospitality, and food service industries. She also has worked with global professional firms, world-renowned universities, public entities, and large not-for-profit organizations.

Rebecca has testified before Congress and has spoken nationally about workplace investigations, harassment and discrimination, workplace violence prevention, and other employee relations topics. Dedicated to all aspects of employee complaint resolution, she has trained as a mediator, arbitrator, and ombuds.

She regularly works with executive management, in-house counsel, outside law firms, and boards of directors to deliver first-rate services in the investigations context.

Rebecca has served as an expert witness and has adeptly testified about her own investigations in the deposition and arbitration settings.

A recognized expert, Rebecca provides leadership in the field of workplace investigations and the prevention and management of workplace misconduct more generally. She participates as a member of Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI) and is a Co-Convener of AWI’s Local Circle of investigators for the San Francisco Bay Area. Rebecca also served on the Technical Committee that developed an American National Standard on Investigations. Throughout her career, she has spoken widely in a variety of forums about investigations and employee-relations practices.

As a nationally-recognized expert in workplace threat management, Rebecca testified before Congress, contributed to ground-breaking work by the FBI, worked with local law enforcement on critical incident response, and chaired a successful national effort by SHRM and ASIS International to develop an American National Standard on Workplace Violence Prevention and Intervention. She has worked with large organizations to implement structured workplace violence prevention programs.

Rebecca is a graduate of Stanford University and the Santa Clara University School of Law, where she served as an Articles Editor of the Santa Clara Law Review and as an intern to the California Supreme Court.

A member of the State Bar of California, Rebecca belongs to the Labor and Employment Law Sections of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California, as well as to professional organizations in the Compliance and Ethics arena. Rebecca began her career at Morrison & Foerster and Seyfarth Shaw.
